Bangalore: JSW Steel Ltd has anounced that The Cold Rolling Mill Complex of JSW Steel Ltd, Vijayanagar Works was inaugurated yesterday by Dr. J J Irani, Director Tata Sons Ltd and former Managing Director, Tata Steel Ltd. The 1 million tonne CRM Complex will cater to the booming automobile and auto component industry and act as a catalyst for attracting further investments in this sector in southern India.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Sajjan Jindal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, JSW Steel Ltd, Mrs. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson, JSW Foundation, Mr. Y Siva Sagar Rao, JMD & CEO, JSW Steel Ltd, senior officials and distinguished guests spanning the spectrum of suppliers and potential customers.
Built in a record time of 22 months, the CRM Facility is a forward integration of the existing facilities where Hot Rolled Coils are Cold Rolled to produce high end Cold Rolled Sheets which cater to the upper segment of the steel market.
The CRM complex would produce coils with a "thickness" of 0.3 mm to 3 mm and a width range from 800-1650 mm. The technology providers are among world leaders in their field of expertise. The CRM will roll out "Jumbo" coils of 60 tonne weight which will improve the productivity of the Pickling & Two Strand Reversing mill. The CRM has level-2 and level-3 automation. The state of the art electrolytic cleaning line coming up with the main plant will ensure that the stringent requirement of surface quality of the auto sector is ensured from day one itself.
CRM would cater to a wide range of industrial applications namely automobile bodies & components, white goods, electrical panels, drums & barrels, furniture, electrical stampings, packaging etc. Practically the CRM covers the basic needs of a 21st Century life.
JSW is on an expansion surge and plans to scale up production to 7 mtpa by 2008 & reach the coveted 10 mtpa capacity by 2010. This expansion would make it one of the largest steel plants at one location in India. |
