GKN Driveline building new factory near Chennai Print E-mail

MUMBAI : GKN Driveline will expand its presence by building a new factory for the manufacture of sideshafts, including a state-of-the-art test centre, at Oragadam near Chennai.

 The new facility will expand GKN Driveline’s capability in Southern India and position the company to meet the rapid growth of the Indian car market. GKN Driveline will invest £14 million  [ approximately Rs. 115 crore ] in the new plant that will go into production at the beginning of 2008 – it will have a capacity of 600,000 vehicle sets.

 GKN Driveline currently employs 450 people in three factories in India Faridabad and Dharuhera near Delhi, in the north and Gummidipoondi near Chennai in the south.

 Rajendra Ojha, Managing Director, GKN Driveline India, told a leading newspaper that GKN is the single supplier of driveshafts to all car manufacturers in India except Maruti.

GKN Driveline is a global enterprise with 21,000 people working at more than 40 locations in over 30 countries. Recognised as the automotive industry’s leader in the design and production of driveline components, GKN Driveline provides driveshafts for the smallest front-wheel-drive vehicles up to the most sophisticated four-wheel-drive models. GKN Driveline’s first facility in India was established in 1986 at Faridabad in Haryana.
