Pune: Volkswagen India celebrated the 36th observance of World Environment Day through a tree plantation ceremony at its upcoming manufacturing facility at Chakan, Pune.

Volkswagen employees planted 250 trees to encourage green surroundings at the facility. Mr. Joerg Mueller, President, Volkswagen India also participated in the initiatives.

This occasion also provided a perfect opportunity to reiterate Volkswagen’s global commitment towards the environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mueller said, “Globally, we have been constantly working on energy efficiency and making our business more environment friendly.

This initiative is just a step further in VW’s continuing commitment to clean and green environment initiatives.”

The World Environmental Day, which is nowadays celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide, was proclaimed on 5 June 1972, in Stockholm, by the United Nations General Assembly, during the first international conference on the human environment.
