Industrial corridor planned along NH 4 and NH 218 in Karnataka |

Bangalore: Murugesh Nirani, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, told reporters that the newly elected BJP government plans to establish industrial corridors along National Highways NH4 and NH218 to create employment opportunities for people living in North Karnataka. The highways connect Bangalore to Belgaum and Hubli to Bijapur.
Of the 45 special economic zones planned for Karnataka, Nirani said that two for Belgaum and one for Hubli-Dharwad had already been sanctioned.
The minister said that iron sponge plants and steel manufacturing plants could be set up in the Bellary, Tumkur and Chitraguda districts as iron ore was available in Bellary.
He also suggested that cement plants could be set up in the limestone rich areas of Bagalkot, Gulbarga and Tumkur districts.
In addition, Nirani said that centers of horticulture like Bagalkot, Bijapur, Belgaum, Shimoga districts could have food processing units.
The minister said that following a high level committee meeting in Bangalore on June 27 to consider 36 pending plans, industrialists would be encouraged by the government to set up units in the North Karnataka region. |
