Mumbai/Chennai: Dr. Jim Womack , Chairman and Founder, Lean Enterprise Institute, and Vice-Chairman, Lean Global Network, will be addressing Indian business leaders at the first ever Lean Management Summit 2008 to be held in Mumbai on August 4 and in Chennai on August 6.

The co-author of some of most widely acclaimed books: The Machine That Changed the World, Lean Thinking, and Lean Solutions, Dr Jim Womack, is also recognised for his work at MIT on the comparative industrial policy in the US, Europe and Japan.

Lean Management Summit has been organised by Lean Management Institute of India (LMII), an independent not-for-profit company dedicated to promote Lean Management in various industries especially in the manufacturing and the services sectors.

Founded by Mr. Siddhartha Lal and Mr. S.Sandilya of the Eicher Group in their individual capacities, the company will be guided  in its operation by a Board of Governors, which is being constituted.

Mr Ravi Achanta, Vice President of LMII, said, "Through his seminal research, Dr Womack, along with Prof Daniel T Jones, decoded the DNA of Toyota Way to enumerate the underlying principles of Lean – specify value, identify value creating steps, make value flow to the customer, supply to customer pull, and strive for perfection."

"These principles have since been applied successfully across various industries including manufacturing, retail, ITES, air travel, distribution and healthcare. Lean Management Solutions are extremely relevant in today's tough economic environment in India and globally", he added.

Some of the well-known Articles Dr Womack co-authored include: "From Lean Production to the Lean Enterprise" (Harvard Business Review, March-April, 1994), "Beyond Toyota: How to Root Out Waste and Pursue Perfection" (Harvard Business Review, September-October, 1996), "Lean Consumption" (Harvard Business Review, March-April, 2005).
