Determined to quell the shortage of technologically-skilled manpower in the increasingly dominant and ever improving Indian automotive space, Eicher has taken a pioneering lead as the first commercial vehicles’ manufacturer in India to set up training centers based on industry-institution collaboration and thereby implement a critical action point of the Automotive Mission Plan 2006-2016.

To this effect, on July 19, 2008, MoUs were signed with the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore (Karnataka) and ITI Kuber Nagar, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) for the establishment of the NIE-Eicher Knowledge centre and ITI Kuber Nagar – Eicher School of Excellence, respectively. According to the project roadmap, these training centers should be operational by September 2008. Similar initiatives are being mapped for the northern and eastern belts of India.

The main objective of this collaboration is to provide an understanding of modern manufacturing techniques by familiarizing the young trainees with the latest in automotive technology. Besides practically demonstrating the more scientific ways of repair, maintenance and overhaul of commercial vehicles, these training centers will focus on imparting holistic education on the finer nuances of manufacturing management.

On successful completion of the training program, NIE – Eicher Knowledge center will offer a PG Diploma in automobile engineering while the Ahmedabad based ITI –Eicher School of Excellence will offer a dual certification from the National Council of Vocational Training (NVCT) and Eicher, respectively.

Whilst such training centers spring a new momentum into industry-institution partnership, they emerge from a common need to precipitate learning of safe driving practices and fuel conservation techniques.
