90 Member CII-SME Delegation to Germany accompanying Mr Kamal Nath Print E-mail

Minister also leading CII delegation to Czech Republic

New Delhi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Mr Kamal Nath is leading a 100 member CII SME delegation to Germany on 8th and 9th September 2008. Mr Sunil Kant Munjal, Past President CII is the co-leader. In Berlin, the Minister will deliver the Inaugural address on "India - Partner for Medium Sized Businesses in Germany" at the Annual Handelsblatt Conference and lead meetings with key ministers from the German Government, leading Industry Associations (BDI, BGA & ZDH), 'Invest in Germany' and chair a CEO Round Table.

CII's objective to strengthen the existing economic and bilateral relations and business opportunities with a special focus on the German mid-sized companies i.e. the famous 'Mittlestand' will cover four cities in Germany and meet with the local SMEs, business leaders, investors, sectoral associations and chambers of commerce of Germany and government officials in Berlin, Stuttgart, Koblenz and Frankfurt.

CII team will visit Berlin Adlershof, Europe's most modern technology park, with 413 technology oriented firms, most of them startups and SMEs with a total of around 4600 employees, 12 non-university affiliated research instituted with 1600 employees of which 800 are scientists.

The major highlight of the programme shall be the visit to AMB (International Exhibition for Metal Working at State of the art) newly constructed, modern fairgrounds in Stuttgart, an exhibition supported by VDMA (German Engineering Federation) and VDW (German Machinery Tool Builders' Association)  

The CII delegation will also visit Daimler Factory in Stuttgart and also visit the Handwerkskammer Koblenz und Ausbidungszentrum der IHK Koblenz/Chamber of Trade & Skilled Crafts Koblenz and Training Centre of the Chamber of Koblenz to learn more about German Vocational Training.

CII shall also be meeting with VDMA (German Engineering Federation) and ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association) in Frankfurt.

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The Embassy of India in Germany, The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, The Indo German Chambers of Commerce (IGCC) and CII are organizing the visit.  

Delegation represents SMEs from most of the States and cuts across sectors including:  Automotive, Chemicals, Electronic, Electrical, Logistics, Metal Working, Engineering, Ayurveda, Leather and Footwear, Machine Tool, Steel Casting, Environment, logistics and supply chain, Renewable Energy, Business Consultancy etc.    

The Minister will then lead a delegation to Czech Republic from 10 -11 September 2008.

Mr Kamal Nath would continue on to Prague, Czech Republic from 10-11 September. This delegation would closely evaluate the opportunities and challenges for Indian companies in Czech with a view to strengthen trade and economic relations.

For Czech Republic, Mr R Seshasayee, Past President, CII (and Managing Director, Ashok Leyland Ltd.) would be the co-leader of the delegation. This includes members from sectors such as auto and auto components, coal, manufacturing, IT and engineering. The Indian embassy, Confederation of Czech Industries and CII in association with Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has put together this delegation.

CII will meet with high-level government officials and industry from the Czech Republic. They will visit Skoda Power and Skoda Auto factory amongst other industry visits.

During the last five fiscal years bilateral trade between India and Czech Republic has witnessed average growth of 17.24%, which has crossed the US $ 450 million mark.
