New Delhi, Delhi, India - Chennai based Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) announced today its Greenfield investment at Manisa in Turkey to manufacture 15000 tractors a year. TAFE is the second largest manufacturer of tractors in the world in the sub 100 HP range with an annual production and sale of about 80000 tractors and close to a million satisfied customers. With about 50 years of experience in manufacturing tractors, TAFE's extensive product portfolio covers the range of tractors required by the customers in Turkey.

Commenting on the investment in Turkey, TAFE's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. A Sivasailam said, "Turkey is a strategically important market for us. TAFE has, over the past few years, invested significantly in developing tractors in the sub 100 HP range for a variety of applications for discerning customers in both the domestic and overseas markets. Tractor customers in Turkey are progressive farmers who expect the highest levels of performance, reliability and fuel efficiency and we are confident our products will meet these expectations. We believe that this is the opportune moment to enter with a Greenfield investment into Turkey."

Ms Mallika Srinivasan, Director, TAFE added that "The tractor market in Turkey is of significance to us in that its composition is well within our experience and manufacturing range. Over 2000 TAFE tractors are already in operation in Turkey giving us a good understanding of the market and its needs. Turkey is an investor friendly country and we have been welcomed and facilitated in our investment proposals by the authorities in Turkey. With this support we expect the first tractors to roll out of the new plant in the first quarter of 2009."

TAFE is an ISO 9001 and 14001 certified organization that lays great stress on quality and has been recently recognized by the CII-EXIM Bank Awards Jury for "Strong Commitment to Excel" in its journey of excellence based on the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model for excellence. This unflinching focus on quality has led to its products being recognized and well accepted in the countries of South Asia, Africa and North America.

This includes a range of tractors developed and manufactured by TAFE that are being distributed by its long standing partner, AGCO Corporation, USA in the American markets. TAFE's export revenues have seen consistent growth year after year and have doubled over the past three years.

TAFE already has extensive manufacturing facilities in India with four tractor plants, an engine plant and other plants that manufacture hydraulic pumps, transmissions and engineering plastics and is part of the Amalgamations group which is one of India's largest light engineering groups with extensive business interests in the automotive components sector.
