Bangalore : The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) has, on the eve of the Aero India air show, announced its intention to open an office in Bangalore to assist UK aerospace and advanced engineering companies, in particular SMEs, to access the vibrant and rapidly growing market in India.

The UK Advanced Engineering Regional Office (AERO) is supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) as well as other trade associations and devolved UK administrations.

It will be based in Bangalore, staffed full-time and available for companies to access the Indian market, network with companies operating in it and market products and services.

Ian Godden, SBAC Chief Executive, said “I am delighted to announce the plans for the office in India, which confirms our belief that the country is a key partner for our sector.  India is a vital, rapidly growing market for UK aerospace businesses that was worth US$20 million in 2007 but is expected to grow to US$2 billion by 2015.

"Aerospace in the UK is a national success story and provides high-quality careers in engineering and manufacturing.  Exporting is one of our strengths, providing a positive balance of trade for the country.  We look forward to assisting UK companies to access excellent opportunities to partner with businesses in India to deliver benefits to both countries, their businesses, their economies and their populations.

“We have thirty three British companies here at AeroIndia 2009 in Bangalore and this presence further demonstrates the importance that the market and the country have for UK firms.  Assistance from UKTI has been invaluable in establishing the office and in bringing some of the UK businesses to AeroIndia and I thank UKTI for their support.”
