Hyundai Motor India receives EEPC 'Top exporter of the year' Award Print E-mail

New Delhi: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), India's largest auto exporter and the second largest car manufacturer, has been conferred the Top Exporter of the Year Award for 2006-07 in the category of 'Large Enterprises' and presented the Gold Trophy at the Southern Region Annual Award Presentation by the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC).

The award, in recognition of Hyundai's outstanding contribution to Engineering Exports during the year 2006-07, was presented to Mr. Kim, Regional Manager, South, Hyundai Motor India, by Shri Elamaram Kareem, Hon'ble Minister for Industries, Government of Kerala, at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Engineering Export Promotion Council is an apex industry body set up by the Ministry of Commerce. EEPC awards are presented every year to corporates, which show outstanding achievements in different categories. The Large Enterprises category feature manufacturers with an export turnover of over Rs 150 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kim, said: "We are honoured and delighted to receive this award. This recognition comes as a great encouragement for our accomplishments from one of the highest bodies in the land and from the Ministry of Industries itself. The honour accentuates our endeavour to be one of the major contributors to India's rapidly growing economy, playing our part in India's growth as an exporter."

Last year, Hyundai was the proud recipient of the EEPC 'Top Exporter of the year' award for the year 2005- 06. HMIL, which is the largest passenger car exporter from India accounts for roughly 67% of the car exports from India. HMIL's export performance for the year 2006-07 was a whopping Rs. 2933.34 crores. HMIL in 1999 started exporting with a batch of 20 cars to neighboring Nepal. Today it exports to 95 countries across the globe and by next year the company's exports should reach over 100 countries.
