While addressing the gathering, here at Vijayanagar, Mr.Sajan Jindal said, "This is a historical day not only for JSW Steel but also for the entire nation. With the commissioning of the largest Blast Furnace, JSW Steel has become the leading steel producer. It is a major mile stone in the history of the Company. In this economic slow down, the commissioning of expansion project is a giant step towards making India proud."

This project is commissioned in 31 months. It is one of the shortest durations from the start to the commissioning of the project of this size. Over 20,000 people worked at site during the peak of the project.

This is JSW Steel's 3rd Blast Furnace at Vijayanagar Steels. This Blast Furnace with the size of 4019 cum is one of the most modern furnaces and is the largest in India. It is built with the technology from Siemens VAI of UK. The furnace operates with high top pressure ( 2.5 bar ) and high hot blast temperature (1250 Deg.C) which ensures maximum coal injection and energy saving. The furnace has the biggest blowers (40 MW) from Man-Turbo of Switzerland. Top charging from Paul Wurth of Luxumborg and critical refractories from Japan form part of this furnace. The furnace is also provided with modern environmental protection systems like Cyclone & Venturi scrubber for Gas cleaning, Cast House and Stock house de dusting systems, Slag granulation system etc. Waste energy is recovered through 11 MW top gas recovery turbines.

Mr.Y Siva Sagar Rao, Joint Managing Director & CEO, JSW Steel said, "Setting Standards is the way of life in JSW and we have again proved by setting up the largest Blast Furnace in India in a record time. It is an honor for all of us to work in an organization which is growing at such a pace. The support and contribution of my young and dynamic team for setting a new mile stone and to make Mr.Sajan Jindal's dream come true is invaluable. And I am pleased  to say that the vision of setting up first 10 MT  plant in single location at Vijayanagar Works will again prove that we are the trend setters."

The other units of this expansion project namely Material handling, Coke Ovens, Sinter Plant, Steel making and continuous casting, Wire Rod Mill, Utilities, Logistics and Power supply units have already been commissioned earlier. This Expansion also includes long product like wire rods & Rebars processed from Billets of 8 Stand Billet casters. The slab casters once again are the first of its kind in India which can produce wider and thicker slabs (2200 mm wide x 300 mm thick).

JSW steel is also in the advance stage of setting up of 5 MTPA State of the Art Hot Strip Mill which will be commissioned in the second half of fiscal 2009-10.
