Voith Hydro turbine manufacturing plant coming up in Vadodara.

Voith AG one of the major suppliers of machines for the hydel power sector and the paper manufacturing sector, has decided to increase its focus on the Indian market, with special emphasis on the automotive sector. Based out of Pune, the Indian wing of Voith  Industrial Services will focus on providing high-tech engineering services. Recruitments for its business will begin immediately.

Voith Hydro has acquired land close to the industrial city of Vadodara and building work for the new plant is already in full swing. The plant in Vadodara will focus on the production of equipment for small hydro plants. In addition to being the key supplier to the Indian market it will also support other Voith Hydro locations with their small hydro projects. So far, Voith Hydro has one location in India: Noida, close to the national capital New Delhi. There is huge potential for small turbines in India as the hydel generation capacity in the country will be expanded from 20,000 MW to 50,000 MW.

According to reports the new plant is being set up in Vadodara at a cost of €50 million ( 331.6 crore INR ) to produce 20 MW turbines for the hydel power sector.

The Voith Group has also set up an India Advisory Board to provide assistance in all questions regarding the development of the Voith activities in India (Strategy, Growth....). The India Advisory board is headed by Mr. N. Shenoy, former chairman of ABB (India) and its members are senior representatives of Indian business life.

According to reports,  President and  Chief Executive Officer of Voith,  Mr Hubert Lienhard considers India a key market and the  Group wishes to increase its  presence in India with its manufacturing facility, industrial services and other interests.

Two of the four  Voith corporate divisions, Voith Paper and Voith Turbo, have had a presence in India since the 1920s. Voith Industrial Services made its entry into the Indian market last year.

Voith AG is one of Europe’s largest family-owned enterprises with annual sales of € 4.9 billion (2007/08). The group has four corporate divisions: Voith Paper, Voith Hydro, Voith Turbo and Voith Industrial Services.
