Mumbai: Siemens Ltd. has announced an investment of Rs.275 crores for expansion at its steam turbine manufacturing facility located at Vadodara, Gujarat. The expansion program, scheduled to be complete by 2010, will triple the manufacturing capacity at the factory. The expansion program will add three production bays amounting to 14,000 sq.mts. to the existing production facility and the factory will have the capacity to manufacture Steam Turbines up to 100 MW. In addition to the domestic market, the factory will be able to strengthen its export business to Asia and Africa and Europe. We remain optimistic about the long term business potential in the country and it is, therefore, impressive to continue building on our strengths locally."

Spread over an area of 60,000 square meters, the factory currently manufactures Single Stage and Multi Stage Steam Turbines up to 45 MW for Industrial applications. Conforming to international standards, the Company has established this facility as a 'Centre of Competence smaller Steam Turbines. The smaller turbines up to 15 MW are sourced from this factory by Siemens AG to cater to its requirements in Asia, Africa and even to European markets in the future.
