Hyderabad: NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Pvt Ltd., a 50:50 joint venture between National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) proposes to set up a Rs 6,000-crore power equipment manufacturing facility at Srikalahasti in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

After assuming charge of his office, State Major Industries Minister, Mr Kanna Lakshminarayana cleared the project's file directing the hand over of 750 acres of land at Mannavaram (Chittoor district) towards the project.

According to the minister the proposed facility by NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Pvt Ltd is expected to generate direct employment opportunities for around 6000 people and indirect employment opportunities for another 25,000.

The letter of allotment of the land was handed over to Shri. CP Singh, CMD of TPC-BHEL Power Projects Pvt Ltd by Shri. YS Rajasekhar Reddy, A.P Chief Minister, late last month.

Considered to be the largest PSU investment in Andhra Pradesh, this is a major achievement for the state, since NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Pvt Ltd zeroed in on Andhra Pradesh for this project, over Pune or West Bengal.
