BEML signs MoU with SAIL to manufacture 100T Wagons for Freight Corridor Print E-mail

Bangalore: BEML Limited, a Mini Ranta Category-I Public Sector under the Ministry of Defence and SAIL (Steel Authority of India), a Navaratna Company under the Ministry of Steel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 8th July 2009 at Bangalore to manufacture 100T Wagons for Freight Corridor.

These wagons will be manufactured according to the design and specifications approved by RDSO. The production of Stainless Steel Wagons will be taken up at the Bangalore Complex of BEML Limited.

By this MoU, BEML Limited will associate with SAIL, SSP (Salem Steel Plant) for design, development and supply of 100T Stainless Steel Wagons to Indian Railways.

In this venture, SAIL, SSP will supply total stainless steel material and BEML will produce wagons.

The MoU is set to make extra-ordinary impact in the rail transport sector for movement of materials in the country by introducing Stainless Steel Wagons to gain economy, low tare weight, lower life cycle cost and higher payload.

"During the current financial year, BEML Ltd. a defence PSU plans to produce 500 rail coaches. During the year 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-2013, the company plans to produce 600, 700 and 750 rail coaches respectively," the Minister of State for Defence Shri MM Pallam Raju informed in Lok Sabha today.
