Ghodawat 1650 - indigenously manufactured Wind Energy Converter launched Print E-mail

New Delhi : Ghodawat Energy Limited (GEL) in partnership with AMSC-Windtec GmbH, Austria, have announced the launch of their prototype, state-of-the-art indigenously manufactured Wind Energy Converter (WEC) – Ghodawat 1650.

With a power output of 1650 KW and state-of-the-art pitch system, this is the first product of the recently signed technology license agreement between the two companies.

"With this first step, we plan to set up 15 wind turbines in India in this financial year i.e. FY 09-10, thus adding a capacity of 25 MW of power generation. We have assigned a capex of Rs. 100 crore for the same over the next 1 years and aim to achieve 25% market share by 2012," said Shrenik Ghodawat, Managing Director, Ghodawat Energy Limited.

The announcement was made at the 3rd Renewable Energy 2009 Expo held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. 

"The Ghodawat 1650 is the first Wind Turbine, for Indian markets, manufactured jointly with our partners AMSC-Windtech GmbH. This joint venture has facilitated our endeavour to launch a world class product which is well-equipped to meet the future requirements of the industry," added Shrenik Ghodawat. It is designed to operate with the high standards of reliability and efficiency which is certified by GERMANISCHER LLOYD (GL).

Speaking about the partnership, Tim Poor, Vice President – Global Sales and Business Development, AMSC, USA said, "The rapidly changing global climatic conditions have made it imperative to tap alternate sources of energy like wind, solar, biomass, etc. India has already shown advancement in these arenas hence it was to our advantage to set up base here through this JV with Ghodawat Energy Limited, with their vision and focused approach we will achieve our common goal."

Sanjay Ghodawat Group’s Ghodawat Energy Limited (GEL) forayed into the Wind Power generation in 1997 followed by Tower Manufacturing in 2004 and Turbine Manufacturing (A green field Project) in 2009. Currently it owns and operates over 150 wind turbines, which generates over 100 MW of electricity in various states of India. GEL is also a key component supplier in the wind power sector.
 
Wind Turbine Division: GEL manufactures Wind Turbines under the technology license of AMSC-Windtec GmbH. 1.65 MW WEC's are manufactured with various advanced options for markets like South and South East Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Wind Power Division: With an investment of over $112 Million (INR 500 Crores); the group has set up wind farms in Indian states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat. This electricity is sold to the state electricity boards as well as to the private industries. The production capacity of these farms is 100MW.

Wind Tower Division: This plant was tailor-made for manufacturing Tubular Type Wind Turbine Towers. The installed capacity of the unit is 400 towers per annum. It holds the best of the wind industry as its clientele.
