Hitachi inaugurates Rs.50 Crore AC manufacturing facility at Kadi, Gujarat Print E-mail

Ahmedabad,: Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, inaugurated the new air-conditioner manufacturing plant of Hitachi Home & Life Solutions(India) Ltd.(HHLI) at Kadi (Gujarat) near Ahmadabad. This facility is the largest AC manufacturing facility in India under a single shed.

Built at a total investment of approximately Rs.50 Crore, the plant is equipped with advanced machinery and testing labs. With an increase in production capacity to 4.0 lakh units per annum, the company is expecting at least a 10% increase in turn over.

The new plant would manufacture commercial air-conditioners including large air-conditioner Chiller plants, Ductable air-conditioners and Telecom  Air conditioners. Currently Hitachi Chillers are being imported from Hitachi's factories outside India.

The 35000 Sq.Mtr. facility is located on a plot of 85,000 Sq.Mtr. The new manufacturing facility is situated adjacent to the company's current plant at Kadi, 40 KM from Ahmedabad. The company built the facility in a record time of 7.5 months.

In the financial year 2008-09 HHLI had a turnover of Rs.520 crore. It has two production units in India Kadi, Gujarat & Jammu. Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the company's manufacturing facility at Kadi, Gujarat, is among the ten Hitachi air conditioner facilities worldwide.  HHLI has a total installed capacity of 250,000 units per year.

Industry is progressing from premium product image to a diversified market due to changes in life style and rapid economic and rapid economic growth," said Shinichi Iizuka, Managing Director, HHLI. 

Amit Doshi, Director, Corporate Affairs, HHLI said "HHLI has recognized consumer behavioral changes and is now directing all the activities to meet their demands and create a distinctive Hitachi brand image. Last year when we took the decision to invest in a new manufacturing facility, the commercial air-conditioner market was de-growing due to global economic slow down, but we have always believed in the Indian market and want to serve it with products made in India and more importantly, made for India, hence we will continue investing in expanding our manufacturing base in India."

HHLI operates in mass premium segment.It currently holds 7% market share in room air-conditioner segment, however it is No. in premium segment category. In ductable commercial air-conditioner HHLI has 17% market share and in telecom tower air-conditioners category it enjoys leadership position with 28% market share.

Hitachi Home & Life Solutions(India) Ltd, a subsidiary of Hitachi Appliances Inc - Japan, signed an MOU to invest in Gujarat during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2009.
