Pune: SKF Group President and CEO Mr Tom Johnstone and SKF India Managing Director Mr. Rakesh Makhija inaugurated SKF's first 'SKF Solution Factory' in India at Chinchwad, Pune, to provide engineering solutions to customers.

The Solution Factory will start by offering bearing remanufacturing and spindle services. Later it will add customized product services, remote diagnostics, customized sealing solutions, Lubrication Oil Station assembly, etc. The ultimate objective is to make offerings from its five technology platforms more available for customers.

It's five technology platforms include bearings and units, seals, mechatronics, services and lubrication solutions.

"This will give customers around the world access to a unique process and wide range of application knowledge—all under one roof. Typical services are within lubrication solutions, sealing solutions, remanufacturing of bearings, spindle service and other mechanical services as well as remote monitoring, project management and training," said Tom Johnstone.

Sudhir Rege, Head of Service Business in SKF India commented further: “The SKF Solution Factory is a concentration of our knowledge resources, allowing us to offer so much more than products in a box. For example, instead of only delivering bearings and seals to our customers, we can help them cut operational costs, improve efficiency and availability. Our commitment is towards helping our customers get more competitive and the Solution Factory will make this very visible to them. The SKF Solution Factory fully supports the SKF strategy of providing knowledge engineering solutions to our customers.’

"The network of SKF Solution Factories around the world is growing, with 7 established so far; two in China, one in Sweden, one in Brazil, one in Italy, one in South Africa and now this one in India. The plan is to establish some 10 of these factories in 2009, serving customers on every continent. More locations will be added in the years to come and the SKF Solution Factories worldwide work together, sharing experience and knowledge, with common standards," Johnstone added.

New Initiatives, financial and industrial expansion plans.

"We are very pleased in the manner in which our business is developing in India. We see significant opportunities ahead and our plans include setting up a full fledged engineering Centre in Bangalore by 2010. The first phase of this centre called the “Global Testing Centre” is ready for rollout. Our two new factories in Ahmedabad and Haridwar will be ready for commercial production in Q1, 2010 and this will broaden out ability to service customers from close proximity," said Tom Johnstone.

He further added, "We have also recently announced the formation of our new Asian Organisation which will be headed by Rakesh Makhija our MD in India at this point of time. The new structure will impart much more focus for SKF in Asia and especially in India and China. We will focus on new product for our Asian customers and on building a very strong organization to service this growth."

As part of its industrial expansion plans, SKF India will increase its activities and presence in the market to support its customers and the development of its business. In Q1 2010 with the opening of its two major manufacturing facilities in Haridwar (Small Deep Groove Ball Bearings) for the Automotive segment and in Ahmedabad (large size bearings) catering to the Heavy Industries, Wind and the Railway segment.

Solutions, Value & Partnership - SKF’s Mantra For India

During the third quarter SKF India sales and manufacturing were positively impacted by the good development of the company’s automotive business including the two and three wheeler business and some industrial segments showing signs of revival driven primarily by the government incentives to revive consumer and investment demand.
