Group to invest Rs 700cr for the integrated forging plant in Durgapur.

Durgapur: Mackeil group, a manufacturer of heavy engineering products with machining facilities in eastern India, is setting up a modern open die oil forging plant with production capacity of 40,000 TPA integrated with steel melting shop (SMS) with annual capacity 0.3 million TPA. In the 1st phase, 200 crores have already been invested. Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Finance, Govt. of India inaugurated the plant on 25th December 2009.

At present the group is involved in making heavy engineering products like gear boxes, rolling stock items, railways equipment etc for both private and public sectors from India and abroad. The expansion is part of it's backward integration strategy.

The group will invest Rs 700 crore for the integrated forging plant in Durgapur. The forging plant will have equipments from world leading companies and some of them will be used for the first time in this forging industry. The plant has a unique feature for quality enhancement by its most modern testing and R&D facilities which will deliver consistent Quality   forging products in India and abroad.

The plant will produce all grades of forgings like high carbon, high chromium, stainless steel etc ranging from 200 kg to 35 Ton single piece with its two press of capacity 3500 Ton & 1000 Ton from VAD ingots and later it may produce 500 mm round casters first time in INDIA depending on the customers’ needs and requirement. It will supply to industries in India and abroad with the motto of growth for the customers. It will cater to the needs of industries like power, cement, gear, iron & steel, defense, oil & Gas, sugar, heavy engineering, railways etc.

According to Mr P. Chakraborty Chairman Mackeil Group, “The 2nd phase of the plant which is for setting up of steel melting shop have already setup its wing by acquiring land and its development process has already started which is expected to be completed by the end of 2010, and equipments will be supplied by the leading European manufacturer with an investment of more than 500 crores.” He further added, “Durgapur is chosen as the site because of its industrial facilitating features like road, rail and very short distance from airport.”

Keeping in view the environmental factors, the company implements the latest technology and equipment for pollution control by installing Gas fired furnaces with PLC controlled and SCADA monitoring system for efficient energy consumption leading to the best quality products and nurturing environment to the best with 100% pollution free environment.

Mackeil & Co. is ISO 9001 & TUV Certified. It has applied for ISO 9001, 14001, 21000, certification and NABL certifications.

Mackeil’s first footprint into manufacturing of engineering product & equipments came by the inception of its first company named Mackeil & Co pvt Ltd in the year 1971. The company went on to become the only manufacturer of crucial components like herringbone Gearboxes, weighing 30 Ton, which was earlier supplied by David brown UK .The components for Rajdhani engines, like aluminium gear box and crown gear couplings, which were earlier being imported, have also been developed and are being regularly supplied to Indian railways. In order to sustain forging Quality as input, the company set up the modern CNC operated open Die Forging unit at Durgapur.
