Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged an order valued at Rs.987 crore from Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers Company Limited (GNFC) for setting up a 1120 MTPD Ammonia equivalent, Natural Gas based Synthesis Gas Generation plant at Bharuch, Gujarat.

The scope of work includes process license, know-how and basic engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, interconnection with existing facilities, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance guarantees. For the GNFC plant, L&T will utilise the synthesis gas technology of Haldor Topsøe, Denmark.

The order, bagged by L&T’s Engineering & Construction Division against competition from global EPC contractors, is the first feedstock conversion project ordered, as per the directive of the Government of India, to convert FO/LSHS based ammonia plants to natural gas, in order to bring down energy consumption per MT of ammonia.

The project has been awarded on a lump sum turnkey basis including process technology.

GNFC is in the business of manufacturing and selling fertilizers and chemicals having an existing ammonia plant based on Fuel Oil (FO) / Low Sulphur Heavy Stock (LSHS).
