GS Auto International to set up new manufacturing unit at Jamshedpur Print E-mail

Ludhiana - GS Auto International Ltd, a manufacturer of automotive suspension and fastening components, trailer axle and suspension parts has embarked an expansion plan with a capex of Rs.30 crores (Rs.Thirty Crores) for establishing a new manufacturing unit at Adityapur Industrial Estate, Jamshedpur, for the manufacture of Auto components for Commercial & passenger vehicle segment.

The Company has already acquired land from Adityapur Industrial Development Authority, Jamshedpur and the required building for the project is being constructed. The Company expects to commence commercial production by December 2010.

This manufacturing unit will comprise technology for the manufacture of SGI casting as well as machined auto components with the use of latest world class manufacturing technology for the production of low cost and lower weight Auto Components for commercial & passenger vehicles.

In addition to this, the Company has embarked on a major modernization cum automation programme for its existing unit at Ludhiana with a total capex of Rs 10 crores, which is expected to be completed by June 2011.

By way of bringing in world-class production technology and management systems, Mr. Jasbir Singh Ryait, Chairman, GS International Ltd, hopes to infuse dynamism in the industry,

Mr. Surinder Singh Ryait, Managing Director, GS International Ltd will use his commercial knowledge and expertise for cost reduction, optimization of resources, inventory and manpower management to improve productivity along with the automation of the unit.

GS Auto was member of the first Cluster of 14 Indian Companies constituted under the Programme initiated jointly by ACT (ACMA Center of Technology) and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry). The Mission of this Programme was to bring about improvement in the Production processes by way of concepts propagated and practiced by major Automotive Companies all over the world such as 5-S, JIT (TPS- Toyota production System), TPM and TQM.

GS Auto's product development and engineering teams have developed India's first 14 stations with twin robotized arm transfer line to manufacture Spring Pins and King Pins. Recently the company has introduced specially designed machined and cast parts, namely, Bucket Tooth, Side Cutters, Wheel Studs, Heavy Duty Bush, UJ Cross and Various Pins for construction equipments like JCB, Tata Hitachi, Caterpillar and L&T Komatsu.

The company has now introduced heavy-duty high-speed trailer axle and suspension kits specially designed for Indian Roads and Unbalanced Payload Conditions. This axle is quite different from others available in India. This is made up of special grade Manganese Steel Seamless Tube welded with Solid Spindle.

GS Auto International has presence in all the three verticals of the Auto Component Industry viz. OEMs, After Sales Market and Overseas Market. Apart from vast dealer network of over 550 dealers throughout India, GS Auto has strong presence in the OE segment as well as overseas markets.

The company supplies to Indian OE and Tier 1 customers, namely, TATA Motors, Ashok Leyland Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki Limited, Swaraj Mazda Ltd., Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd., Volvo India Limited, Delphi Automotive Systems Ltd. and Arvin Meritor. It's products are being directly exported to more than 37 countries. In FY 2008-09 on YOY Basis Company improved its export performance by 103% and replacement market also grew by over 25 %.

With the setting of this new Manufacturing unit at Jamshedpur, the Company will enter into the Passenger vehicle auto component sector, which is showing a tremendous growth as compared to the commercial vehicle segment.
