Fom Industrie, Italy sets up Technology Centre in Bangalore, India Print E-mail

Bangalore: Italian machine tool manufacturer, Fom Industrie, has set up a technology center in Bangalore, as a part of it's global expansion strategy. The company also plans to set up new centers in the North and western region of the country.

"We have already invested about 500,000 Euro (32.05 million Indian rupees) to start our technology centre, which has an area of around 5000 sq.ft," said Massimo Ajello, Director (Head of India Operations), FOM Aluminium Machines Pvt. Ltd. The technology center in Peenya Industrial estate, Bangalore will be the headquarters of the company's Technology Center Network in India.

The company plans to engage about twenty people over the next two years as a part of it's expansion plan in the country. "We will be finalizing on the other two technology centres before the year 2010," said Massimo Ajello.

In the year 2009 (July - December), the company touched a turnover of nearly 500,000 Euro (31.9 million Indian rupees), from it's Indian operations. "With our enhanced operations we will be able to reach € 1 millions by 2010," he added.

The company is not immediately looking at sourcing from India, however it is checking the feasibility of assembling the machines here.

It's machines primarily cater to architectural engineering, general engineering and aerospace applications. In India, the company is now planning to enter the aerospace and railway sectors.

The Technology center in Bangalore, which has been functional since September 2009, is equipped with advanced machine tools and staffed with process application engineers. It has a training-center, spare parts and an area dedicated to service and support. It also encompasses a warehouse of assorted machines ready for delivery and a front office integrated with the parent company. Customers are allowed free access to these resources.

"We will be holding our machines stock worth € 250,000, at any point of time," said Massimo Ajello.

"The Company’s wholly owned subsidiary in India, FOM Aluminium Machines Pvt. Ltd., will be led by Massimo Ajello, Director (Head of India Operations) and Keshav Babu. M, Regional sales Manager, Supported and assisted by experienced Indian technical and administrative staff, trained directly by the Parent Company," said Alessandro Pettinari, Chairman of FOM INDUSTRIE  Italy.
