Rane TRW Steering Systems opens Power Steering production plant at Pantnagar Print E-mail

Chennai: Power Steering System Manufacturer, Rane TRW Steering Systems Limited (RTSSL) has inaugurated it's new production plant at Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.

RTSSL has invested Rs. 140 million in the new world-class facility with initial capacity attuned to supply Power Steering Gears and Pumps for Ashok Leyland’s Heavy & Medium Commercial Vehicles and Tata Motors’ Tata Ace. The plant has a capacity for producing 80,000 Steering Gears for Commercial vehicles and 50,000 pumps per annum initially.

The Rs. 140 million has been invested in buildings, systems and machinery. The plant has a total floor space totalling more than 4,000 Sq. meter.

Vinod K Dasari, Director & Chief Operating Officer, Ashok Leyland Ltd. formally inaugurated the new plant in the presence of Mr. L. Ganesh, Chairman, Rane Group and Mr. Harish Lakshman, Managing Director, Rane TRW Steering Systems Ltd.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. L. Ganesh, Chairman, Rane Group, said, “This new factory reinforces the Rane Group's commitment to explore opportunities in North India and confirms the excellent positioning of Rane Group in the Global market, underscored by its technology, production capacity and the trust its customers have placed in it.  This is in line with our overall strategic growth plans”.

Mr. Harish Lakshman, Managing Director, RTSSL said, “RTSSL will pro-actively expand and create facilities for key customers. Towards this, we are proud to open our newest Plant at Pantnagar”.

The 21,500 sq.meter site in the Pantnagar Industrial Area offers ample space for expansion plans. With contracts for new business already in hand, RTSSL plans several phases of additional investment.

RTSSL has independent and comprehensive units to design, test and manufacture complete range of Power Steering solutions and seat belt systems.

The company had a turnover of Rs. 3236 million for the year 2008-09 and has dominant share of business in both commercial vehicle steering and passenger car steering industry. In fiscal 2008-09 the Rane Group recorded revenues of Rs.13, 657 million.

Rane TRW Steering Gear Division (RTSSL - SGD) & Seat Belt Division ( RTSSL-SBD) serves passengers cars, commercial vehicles and utility segments. The major customers of RTSSL are Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Volvo - Eicher, Mahindra Renault, Asia Motors, Hyundai Motors, Ford India, Fiat India, etc.

RTSSL was awarded the best supplier award by Ashok Leyland during 2007-08 and  won the Gold Award (Excellence in Cost Efficiency) from Tata Motors for the year 2008-09. It also won the Deming Application prize in the year 2005. The company's plants have TS 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 certifications.

RTSSL was established in 1987 as a Joint Venture between Rane Group and TRW Automotive JV LLC, USA. The company's first plant was established in Trichy, Tamil Nadu followed by 3 more factories near Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
