Makino's A.N.Chandramouli takes over as MD of StarragHeckert India Print E-mail

Bangalore: StarragHeckert Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of StarragHeckert Group, has announced the appointment of A.N. Chandramouli as it's new Managing Director effective 1 st March 2010. As Managing Director at StarragHeckert Machine Tools India he will lead the green-field business operations and firmly establish the European machine-tool company in India.

In January 2009 StarragHeckert had announced its plans to launch manufacturing operations in India at an investment of approximately 23.56 million Euros. However, due to the economic downturn the company's strategic planning got shifted by about a year.

"The Indian business will be our increasing focus in the next 5 years. The economy has picked up faster than we expected and StarragHeckert India will now accelerate our investment plans and launch of various product groups and brands from Switzerland and Germany. This will give us a comprehensive growth strategy to serve various Indian and Asian markets including Aerospace, Automotive, Tractors, Power generation, Wind Energy, Machine building, and Construction sectors," said Dr. Frank Brinken, CEO of StarragHeckert Group.

"Very soon we will establish our tech center in Bangalore to provide local support for application and service," said Mr. Chandramouli.

"In his last position as CEO & Director he headed all the Indian operations of Makino, a Japanese machine-tool company, where he spearheaded the spectacular growth of Makino through development of Technology Centres, manufacturing of Machining Center in India and a captive Training School," said Dr. Frank Brinken.

Mr. Chandramouli completed his technical background as Mechanical Engineer from National Institute of Technology, Trichy in 1979 and he acquired an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta in 1984. He started his industrial career at Tata Motors as an Engineer in 1979. Mr. Chandramouli started his management career after MBA and he held many positions as Business/Operations Head of reputed companies such as Unilever-Ponds, Hitachi Appliances; he then headed American Multinational as Managing Director of Cooper Bussmann, and German Multinational Lapp Cables and as CEO of Makino.

In India, StarragHeckert's existing customers include BHEL, HAL, Leyland, Tata, Bajaj and Hansen.

StarragHeckert has production plants in Rorschacherberg/Switzerland (Starrag), Chemnitz/Germany (Heckert), Geneva/Switzerland (SIP) and Haddenham/UK (TTL). It also has sales and service companies in China (Beijing and Shanghai), the USA (Cincinnati, Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte), France, the UK, Russia, Spain and Turkey.

The 250 Mn USD turnover company produces precision and ultra-precision Machining Centers (StarragHeckert, WMW) and Jig Boring (SIP) machines and Adaptive Machining Software (TTL). StarragHeckert also provides productivity enhancing software, engineering solutions, process optimization, a wide range of special tools, and fixtures for complete lines as well as standalone machines

The shares of StarragHeckert are quoted on the SIX Swiss Exchange (symbol: STGN).
