Grundfos India inaugurates Phase 2 of facility at Thoraipakkam, Chennai Print E-mail

Chennai: Grundfos Pumps India Pvt Ltd has inaugurated phase II of it's Thoraipakkam facility, which was constructed in 11 months with an investment of Rs. 17.6 crore. The company has also acquired 16 acres of land near Sriperumbudur to construct an additional production facility and the work is expected to commence by the year 2011.

The new 7000 sq meters facility at Thoraipakkam, Chennai has material handling equipment's needed to handle pumps and components in the manufacture, assembly and storage operations and also houses an office area of 1000 sq meters.

The new facility has a test bed capacity that is built to 300 Kw and the entire load is well supported by back-up power, which will help in the testing of large pumps used for massive infrastructure projects.

The company's current plans are to produce end suction pumps, Hydro boosters, submersible and vertical multistage in line pumps.

"Grundfos chose to expand its operation at a time when the markets were witnessing a down turn. We plan to increase our footprint in India and expand our operations by setting up another facility near Sriperumbudur. Our vision is to be the best pump company in all the segments that we operate in. We continue to be eco friendly with our products and our factories," said Ranganath NK, Managing Director, Grundfos-India.

Grundfos India is working with IGBC to get a certification of Green Factory Building to push its agenda of energy efficiency, water conservation and environmental friendliness. Amongst the 14 plants of Grundfos worldwide, Grundfos India is a pioneer in receiving the Green certification.

"India is one of the most important overseas markets for the company in the Asia – Pacific region. The expansion of the Chennai based facility further strengthens our capabilities to adapt to the local market and signifies our commitment to long-term business operations in India. We had established our first facility in March 2005 and have since grown four times the size in turn over," said Carlo Prola, Senior Vice President, Grundfos Group

The Indian operation Grundfos Pumps India Pvt Ltd started in the Year 1998. It has 21 branch/home offices and 10 service centres and operates with over 180 dealers and distributors. Grundfos Pumps India assembles and sells large capacity pumps which are used in  industrial applications, wastewater, commercial buildings, hotels,  government buildings and hospitals.

The Indian pump market is estimated to be approximately Rs 4,000 crore. The need for this expansion arose out of the demand for energy efficient and reliable pumps in the market.

Grundfos registered a revenue of Euro 2.3 billion for the calendar year 2009, approximately 10 per cent lower than the previous year. Grundfos India registered revenues of Rs 208 crore for the calendar year 2009 over Rs 201 crore in calendar year 2008.
