New Delhi: United Technologies Corp, a diversified $52.9 billion global company, has named Zubin Irani as Senior Managing Director of the corporation's commercial companies in India.

In addition to announcing Zubin Irani's appointment, United Technologies also said it will open its first India headquarters office in Delhi, in June of this year. The new office will serve as a hub to identify partnership opportunities, oversee component localization efforts, develop M&A opportunities and to coordinate customer requests.

In his new role, Zubin Irani will be responsible for developing and leading strategies to accelerate growth of United Technologies' commercial companies in India, driving operational effectiveness and the development of local leadership.

"I'm absolutely thrilled Zubin has been appointed to this position. This appointment is the latest example of United Technologies' commitment to India," said Jothi Purushotaman, President, UTC India. "Zubin's strong strategic leadership skills, coupled with a substantial knowledge of the Indian market will significantly accelerate the growth of UTC's commercial companies in India."

UTC's commercial companies in India, which Zubin Irani will oversee, are Carrier, the world's largest provider of heating and air conditioning equipment and solutions; Otis, the world's largest provider of elevators and escalators; and UTC Fire & Security, a global provider of fire and security products. Together, these market-leading commercial companies make United Technologies one the world's largest providers of capital goods and services to the building industry.

"Our commercial companies' portfolio of products and services provides integrated support from project inception through implementation, and uniquely positions United Technologies to support the accelerated development of energy efficient buildings in India," said Ari Bousbib, worldwide President, UTC Commercial Companies. "Zubin's appointment reflects United Technologies' ongoing strategic investment in people, resources and infrastructure to evolve our commercial businesses and better serve our customers in India."

United Technologies currently employs approximately 3,700 people in 113 offices and three factories in 60 cities in India.

United Technologies products include Carrier heating and air conditioning, Hamilton Sundstrand aerospace and industrial systems, Otis elevators and escalators, Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines, Sikorsky helicopters, UTC Fire & Security systems and UTC Power fuel cells and alternative energy solutions.

Zubin Irani joined UTC in 2005 as Carrier's Director, Marketing & Strategy - Asia Pacific. In 2006 he expanded his role into general management as Managing Director, Carrier India, providing a deep focus on this unique market. He was named Vice President and Managing Director, Carrier India, in 2008. Prior to United Technologies, Zubin Irani worked for seven years with McKinsey & Company.
