SANY Group inaugurates manufacturing facility in Pune, India Print E-mail

Pune: SANY Group, a Chinese Construction machinery manufacturer, officially inaugurated their first manufacturing facility in Pune, India. The plant has been set up at an investment of US $70 million at Chakan near Pune.

The new facility will include a comprehensive manufacturing set-up, product design and customization center, sales, renting, service, storage, logistics & full fledged R&D centre. The India centre will manufacture Trailer-mounted Concrete Pump, Truck-mounted Concrete Pump, concrete Mixer Truck, Concrete Batching Plant and Motor Grader and Cranes.

The manufacturing facility has been set up on an area of 330000 sq. meters and has a built up area of 37000 sq. meters. The new facilities are designed to supply equipments, components, design and R&D to the Indian marketplace and additional Asian African and Middle Eastern markets.

"Availability of a skilled work force, presence of good logistics and support from the Maharashtra government were reasons for the choice of Pune as our first offshore destination in India. This investment confirms our long term commitment to the country. This facility will help to achieve further profitable growth in the future. India has also provided us with educated, motivated and talented people. Their dedication, customer focus and creativity are instrumental for our success in this important market," said Xiang Wenbo, Founder and President of SANY Group.

"India is a key market for us. With the new manufacturing facility, we aim to aggressively expand our customer base in India over the next 12-18 months," said Liang Dong, Managing Director, SANY India.

The new facility was inaugurated by Shri Sachin Ahir, Minister of State for Industries, Mining, Environment and Housing, Mr. Zhang Chunxian, Governor of China and Mr. Zhang Yan, Chinese Ambassador to India.

According to the company India’s earthmoving and construction equipment industry's revenue is expected to reach US $12-13 billion in 2015. It had reached US $2.3 billion in 2007.

In 2007, Sany granted 60 million USD for constructing its R&D and manufacturing base in Pune. This was Sany's first plan for overseas development. It took more than two years for the R&D and manufacturing base in Pune to take shape. By far, the base has been expanded to greater than 30,000 square meters, and the crew of the base has grown to more than 580, over 80% of whom are Indians. Now the base is capable of manufacturing concrete machinery locally in India.

SANY first entered India in 2003 and has since then been involved in supply of construction machinery to large scale infrastructure projects in India including Imperial Twin Towers, Adani Power Plant, Mumbai International Airport Expansion, Brahmaputra Rail Bridge Project, Delhi Metro project, Indira Gandhi International Airport Project. In India SANY already enjoys a 25% market share across products.

On January 28, 2010,four concrete mixers made in the Sany’s India Plant and to be exported to Sri Lanka were delivered from the factory in Pune, India. This was the first concrete mixers made by Sany India to be exported outside India. This model of concrete mixer was customized to target the markets in South Asian countries, such as India and Sri Lanka.

Currently SANY India’s network has 12 Offices, 6 Inventory stores and 7 dealerships today, SANY India plans to grow its network to include 15 Dealerships. With presence in over 150 countries with 30 overseas subsidiaries, and a turnover of US $ 4.5 billion, the new facility underpins SANY Group’s commitment to developing its operations in India business.

India, being it’s second manufacturing facility in Asia, the company’s expanded capacity and R&D centre will enable it to create and develop new construction machinery technologies and to custom-tailor these to suit specific Indian market conditions.
