Mumbai: Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), the flagship company of the US $1.2 billion Kirloskar group, has acquired 90% shares in South Africa based Braybar Pumps for around Rs. 110 million. Braybar Pumps, which has been operating since 1980, is actively involved in manufacture of high head multistage pumps in excess of 1200 meters head for dewatering in copper, coal and gold mines and rubber lined slurry pumps.

Braybar Pumps has repair and in-house machining facilities. The acquisition will provide KBL immediate supply and service base, for its products in South African markets.

These facilities can be utilized for assembling various pumps required for the whole South African region as well as supporting KBL with white metal lined bearings which is another product that they manufacture.

Braybar Pumps is involved in repairs and servicing of various types of pumps, especially supplied to the Mining Industry. It specialises in repairs of split case pumps where they have a substantial market share.

The core businesses of KBL are large infrastructure projects (water supply, power plants, and irrigation), project and engineered pumps, industrial pumps, agriculture and domestic pumps, valves and hydro turbines.

The rich mining experience of Braybar Pumps will also enable KBL to set their footprints in the mining industry.

"This new development should enhance our operations in South Africa," said J R Sapre, Director, Kirloskar Brothers Limited.
