The largest collaborations between India and Germany are in the field of machinery and parts

A high-powered CEO's delegation led by Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will accompany Mr P Chidambaram, Finance Minister of India on a mission to the Germany from 18-19 September 2007, to participate in the 16th Indo-German CEOs' Joint Commission.

The Indian CEOs will put forward the Indian perspective on energy-related issues, non-uniformity of standards & procedures applied to Indian agro./meat exports, delays in issue of export licences to German companies supplying certain products, EU regulation on Registration, Evaluation,  Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH).

The CII mission will also discuss difficulties in issue of work permit to Indian IT professionals, mandatory payment of social security contributions from IT professionals with short-term work permits and mutual recognition of standards & certification procedures.

From April 2004 to April 2007, the cumulative FDI inflow from Germany amounted to US$ 81, 018 million. This inflow represented 3.6% of the total FDI inflow into India from the 10 top investors. Germany ranks 6th in terms of actual FDI into India.

There has been a constant flow of technology and investment from Germany through industrial collaboration. Although the German industry has always been more than a supplier of goods to India, periods of high exports were always accompanied by large flows of investment and technology. Since 1991 - the post liberalization era, the new spurt of German exports to India has led to an equally impressive boost in new investment and technical cooperation projects. Around 65 percent of German manufacturing companies already have a presence in India and another 30 percent are in the process of coming to the country.

The largest collaborations between India and Germany are in the field of machinery and parts followed by heavy vehicles, chemicals, technical consultancy services, computers, electrical appliances etc. The top sectors attracting German investment and technology transfer into India are electrical equipment, industrial machinery and metallurgical industry. Infrastructure development can be another area of cooperation between India and Germany.

Other members of the CII CEO's Germany  delegation include Lt. Gen. S S Mehta (Retd), Director General, CII, Mr Arun Bharat Ram, Past President, CII, Chairman & Managing Director, SRF Ltd., Mr Deepak Ghaisas, Vice Chairman, I-Flex Solutions, Mr Farhad Forbes, Past Western Region Chairman, CII, & Director, Forbes Marshall Pvt. Ltd., Mr Gautam Thapar, Chairman, Ballarpur Industries & Chairman, Crompton Greaves Ltd., Mr H S Narula, Chairman, DS Constructions, Mr Pankaj Baliga, VP & Head Global, CSR, TCS, Mr Peter Heij, Head  - Continental Europe, Satyam, Mr Pramod Srivastava, President, NIIT, Dr Sudhir Kapur, MD & CEO, Country Strategy Business Consultants, Ms Supriya Banerji, Deputy Director General, CII and Ms Renuka Singh, Head - West Europe, CII.
