TI Cycles to manufacture super premium range of bicycles at Ambattur facility Print E-mail

Chennai: TI Cycles, India plans begin producing the Schwinn range of bicycles at their Ambattur facility, Chennai, in a year. The plan is to produce at least 20,000 units of Scwhinn range of cycles in the company's Ambattur facility. TI Cycles had been importing and retailing  the Bianchi, Cannondale,and Schwinn range of cycles from 2009.

The company has seen a growth in sales of premium bicycles in India. According to D Raghuram, President, TI Cycles, the Ambattur facility, which has a huge capacity and the ability to manufacture premium bicycles, has been driving the sales by contributing more than 50 per cent in the premium cycles category.

TI Cycles, which is the bicycle manufacturing subsidiary of the $ 3-billion Murugappa Group, has already invested close to Rs. 8 crore in the Ambattur facility.

After unveiling two premium range of cycles - GT and Mongoose, Mr.Raghuram said that the company sold around 4,000 units last year and the first half sales of premium cycles this year has crossed the annual sales made last year. The company plans to double sales this year by selling 10,000 units.

TI Cycles has the capacity to manufacture 500,000 cycles a year at 3 plants across India - Chennai in the South, Nasik in the West and Noida in the North. The company has a network of around 1,500 primary dealers and 10,000 secondary dealers across India. The company already manufactures mass premium bicycles such as  BSA Rodeos and Riders in the Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 range.

The GT range of cycles are priced between Rs.17,000 and Rs.27,000 and the Mongoose range is sold at Rs.10,000 to Rs.25,000.
