Chennai: Castwel Auto Parts Pvt Ltd (CAPL), a part of UMW & MKI group, Malaysia, is expanding its facility in the SIDCO Industrial Estate located in Thirumudivakkam, Chennai, to meet the increasing demand for automotive components by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) both in India and abroad.

The new facility, built at a cost of Rs.100 crore, is approaching completion in a 12-acre plot and is expected to be operational in two months.

In addition to investing in new high pressure die casting lines, Castwel has also invested in a CAD/CAM facility for its Design and Development Center to enable speedy product development of new castings. The company has invested in a variety of machining centers and testing machines to produce castings with dimensional accuracy and superior surface finish.

The new facility will be fully automated using state-of-the-art technology and processes to ensure that all parameters regarding Quality, Cost and Delivery are met. In adherence to stringent quality norms, Castwel ensures that all products go through rigorous quality checks at every stage of production.

Currently, Castwel Auto Parts has two facilities near Chennai manufacturing 45,000 high precision components per month. Its High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) unit produces complicated high integrity components such as Steering components, Rack & Pinion Housing, Brackets, Alternater Covers, Yoke & Pinion Covers, Inlet & Outlet Manifold, Pivot Housing - PS & DS, Scorpio Base, Connectors and water pump bodies. The die casting facility is equipped with fully automatic CNC machines.

According to  Mr. S Muralidharan, Castwel's Chief Technical Officer, the company will be able to manufacture 450,000 tonnes of components after the new facility has been completed.

Castwel supplies a range of automotive components to Bosch, Sona Koyo, Lucas TVS, Valeo, SAME,TAFE, Rane and Knorr-Bremse. The new Toyota Etois saloon, due to be launched in December, will be fitted with end housings and pinion housings manufactured by Castwel.
