Engineering Projects (India) Ltd inks MoU with Scomi for Monorail Projects Print E-mail

New Delhi: Engineering Projects (India) Ltd. (EPI), a Government of India Enterprise under the Department of Heavy Industry, has entered into a three year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Scomi Engineering Bhd, a subsidiary of Scomi Group a Malaysia-based company involved in oilfield services, public transportation and marine services.

Under the terms of the agreement, EPI will work with Scomi as a preferred consortium partner for the execution of Projects for the construction of Monorails and MRTS both in India and abroad.

"Our partnership with EPI is a key component in our plans to establish and expand our expertise in the urban transportation business in India. Through this collaboration, we look forward to identifying and executing various Monorail and MRTS projects in India and abroad. We shall together offer, advanced urban transportation systems, providing end-to-end solutions, competitive pricing, convenience and faster time-to-market to customers in India and world-wide," said Shah Hakim Zain, Group CEO, Scomi Group Bhd.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and Arun Yadav, Minister of State, Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises.

Scomi is currently working on building India’s first monorail in Mumbai, a 20-kilometer route between Jacob Circle and Chembur with one central depot and about 18 stations.

"With the creditable work being done by Scomi in India’s first Monorail project in Mumbai and taking into account its domain expertise, high-quality deliverables and focus and commitment towards expanding its business in India across the world, we are looking forward to a long lasting association with Scomi," said S P S Bakshi, Chairman cum Managing Director, Engineering Projects (India) Ltd.

EPI, which was incorporated in 1970, has executed over 480 multi-disciplinary projects in India valuing over US$ 1175.46 million and has successfully executed 30 projects valued over US$ 782.00 million in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yugoslavia, Maldives, Bhutan & Thailand.

"EPI has successfully performed its assigned roles as the country’s leading Prime Contracting Company and has successfully implemented numerous projects in India and abroad. We are pleased to collaborate with Scomi as our preferred partner to explore business opportunities in the transportation segment," said Bakshi.
