New Delhi: Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi today extended an invitation to over 300 Delhi-based industrialists to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2011. During the Industry Interaction Meet, the Chief Minister also held one-on-one meetings with leading companies from various sectors. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Government of Gujarat.

"I see the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor as a substantial driver of Gujarat’s and India’s growth," Modi said.

"We have decided to develop an area stretching 150 km on either side of this 1483 km long Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) to be termed as Influence Area. 38% of the length of the corridor passes through Gujarat and 62% of Gujarat’s geographical area would fall under the influence area," he added.

A K Joti, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat extended a warm welcome to the New Delhi-based investors and spoke about the well-known commitment of Gujarat’s administration towards facilitation of investment and industries in the State.

Addressing investors at the meet, he said, “We are delighted to address the investors here in the capital of India for the Vibrant Gujarat 2011 Summit. Many New Delhi-based companies have a strong presence in the State of Gujarat. We welcome more investments from across North India and we promise Gujarat will provide a world-class infrastructure and cutting-edge investment facilitation services.”

The Government of Gujarat has already hosted Industry Interaction Meets in Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore in the last few days following the success of the 9 international trade missions to 24 different countries.

"We plan to develop the best of the infrastructure connecting the industries with the ports falling in the influenced area of this corridor. The total investment along the DMIC in Gujarat is estimated at US$ 30,250 million with an employment potential for 7,90,500 persons. As a part of the DMIC project, six identified industrial nodes in Gujarat have to be developed as Global Manufacturing and Commercial Hubs. The potential is immense," said Modi.

"The previous four ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ events were meant to attract investment  for Gujarat. With ‘Vibrant Gujarat 2011’ Summit, we want Investment to go to every Indian state. Representative of any state can come here and sign MOUs with any global company present," he said.

Though the idea for the event was to invite captains of the industry to the Vibrant Gujarat 2011 event to be held on 10th and 11th Jan 2011, the focus shifted to how the Indian economy is growing, thanks to Gujarat. “I always say, ‘Gujarat’s growth, for India’s growth.’ To make India emerge and grow, its States have to grow stronger. Gujarat is perfect example of that with double digit growth rate even during recession and monopoly in various industries across the spectrum,” said Shri. Modi. Despite having only 6% of the national population and 6% of its land mass, Gujarat manages 22% of the India’s export.

Vibrant Gujarat is a biennial global Summit held by the Government of Gujarat. The event is aimed at bringing together business leaders, investors, corporations, thought leaders, policy and opinion makers; the summit serves as a perfect platform to understand and explore business opportunities in the State of Gujarat. The Summit provides an excellent platform for showcasing products and services on one hand and one-to-one meetings, roundtable conferences, B2B meets, etc. on the other between the prospective investors and government officials.

The last four summits have been a major success and there has been a phenomenal increase in the investments that have come through. The last summit that took place on January 12-13, 2009 attracted investment commitments of over INR 12 lac crore (USD 243bn) by the way of 8663 MoUs and with employment generation potential of 26.2 lacs. A total of 600 international delegates from 45 countries participated in the last summit while 21 countries were showcased in the mega exhibition. The Summit has had a resounding successes in the past attracting many companies from Asia and Europe to establish their presence in Gujarat.

This year, Vibrant Gujarat 2011 to held on 12-13 January aims to facilitate investment alliances for participating countries and will be the premier platform in India to identify and leverage business opportunities in this key global market.
