Bangalore: The Bosch Group plans to invest Rs 2,300 crore in India over the next three years, between 2011 and 2013. The investments will be spread over it's three business segments - Automotive Technology, Industrial Technology and Consumer Goods & Building Technology. The company will also recruit around 800 employees this year.

"Every year, more than Rs 750 crore will be spent by the Bosch Group in India," said V K Viswanathan, Managing Director, Bosch Limited. In CY 2010 the company had invested Rs 600 crore and in CY 2009 it had invested Rs 400 crore.

Bosch will be scale up its manufacturing capacities at its plants in Bangalore, Naganathapura, Jaipur, Nashik and Verna(Goa). Approximately 70 percent of the total investment will go towards automotive component manufacturing, for products like inline pumps, distributor pumps, specialised spark plugs, injection systems and alternators.

"In the past, we have been adding 800 to 900 associates every year over the past 3 years. This year we will add a similar number," he said. More than 7 percent (over 20,000 employees) of Bosch's global headcount is employed in India. Of this close to 7000 are working on cutting edge technology.

For certain specific products, Bosch (India) is the lead development center. "A lot of effort has gone into the development of technology for low priced vehicles," he said.

A good portion of the investment would also go into research and development. Globally, Bosch files applications for at least 15 patents every day and invests about nine per cent of it's total revenues on R & D initiatives.

The company's revenue for the year 2010 is expected to touch Rs 9,000 crore compared to Rs 6,000 it registered last fiscal. Approximately 85 percent of the company's turnover comes from the domestic market sales. Nearly 20 percent of the turnover is met by imports. Viswanathan said that the growth would be in excess of 30 percent in 2010.

The company also announced the year 2011 as its 125th anniversary year. Bosch came to India in 1922 and began manufacturing operations in 1953. Today the Bosch Group in India comprises 6 Companies with 13 manufacturing units, over 20,000 employees, 4000 sales outlets and 1500 suppliers.

A series of events will be conducted throughout 2011 as part of the 125 year anniversary celebrations for various Bosch stakeholders that include customers, employees, business partners and suppliers among many others. Bosch will also focus on promoting education as part of its social responsibility commitments. In India Bosch will work towards school adaptation, improvement of school infrastructure and distribution of free text books and stationery at schools across the nation.
