Chennai: Finland based arc welding equipment manufacturer, Kemppi Oy is setting up a manufacturing facility at suburban Neelankarai in Chennai. The company will invest around $ 10 million (approx. 455 million INR) over the next two years in the Indian subsidiary, which is it's first production unit outside Finland.

Arvind Vasu, Managing Director of Kemppi India Pvt. Ltd. said that the unit would start with an initial manufacturing capacity of 3000 welding machines. The facility is expected to be operational by April this year.

Significant cost reductions are envisaged since almost 70 percent of the parts would be sourced locally. The machines produced here would also be exported to Asian and Middle eastern markets.

To begin with the company will first launch the HiArc M400i. In due course Kemppi India will add more products to it's portfolio.

According to Arvind Vasu the size of the market for arc welding equipment in India is approximately $150 million. Kemppi Oy has a 5 percent market share in this segment in India.
