Chennai: Automotive wheel rim manufacturer, Steel Strips Wheels Ltd (SSWL) is planning to set up a new plant for manufacturing truck wheel rims at it's existing facility in Chennai.

The proposed truck wheel rims plant will have an initial capacity of 0.5 million wheel rims and it is expected to be commissioned by March 2012.

The new plant will cater to the requirement of Daimler Chrysler and Ashok Leyland in addition to Tata Motors Ltd.  The company is currently negotiating a large contract in the export segment with an undisclosed global OEM.

Steel Strips Wheels Ltd recently set up a truck wheel rims plant at Jamshedpur. The plant, which caters mainly to Tata Motors, is already running at full capacity due to the strong growth in the commercial vehicle market.

Encouraged by the success of it's plant in Jamshedpur, the company has taken the decision to set up the new plant in Chennai.
