Mumbai: Crompton Greaves (CG), part of the US$ 4 bn Avantha Group, has inaugurated its drives and automation plant at Mandideep, Bhopal. This plant will produce AC drives for the industrial segment and supply traction converters and control electronics to the Indian Railways.

Built at an initial investment of Rs 110 mn, this plant boasts a shop floor spread over 30,000 sq feet and is equipped with modern machineries and tools. The plant will initially manufacture power converters, auxiliary converters (3x100 kVA) and control electronics for 6000 HP electric locomotives type WAG9 and WAP5, for the Indian Railways.

For the industrial segment, it will offer AC drive systems up to 1.2 MW in 415 V and up to 5 MW in 690 V. It will also offer package solutions involving transformers, low voltage switchgears, motors and AC drives.

With this plant, CG has become one of the few companies to offer a vast selection of electrical equipments to the industrial segment.

The plant was inaugurated by Mr S.M. Trehan, Managing Director, CG. "The company has a global footprint and has consistently conquered new frontiers in the field of technology. A dedicated plant for drives and automation adds new dimension to it," said SM Trehan.

A combination of organic and inorganic growth as well as diversification has made CG one of the world’s largest players in the management and application of electrical energy. CG is active in the global power transmission & distribution (T&D) arena, and is amongst the world’s top ten transformer manufacturers. The company is organised into three business groups, viz., power systems, industrial systems and consumer products.
