V. C. S. Velumani takes over as CEO of Shanthi Gears Ltd Print E-mail

Coimbatore: Gears and Gearbox manufacturer, Shanthi Gears Ltd, has appointed V.C.S.Velumani as its CEO. He was earlier the Executive Director of Winergy Drive Systems India Pvt Ltd.

Shanthi Gears is targeting a turnover of Rs. 300 Crores in FY 2011-12, nearly double it's turnover in FY 2010-11. The company had registered a turnover of Rs.124 Crores in FY 2009-10 and Rs. 253 Crores in FY 2008-09.

"We are looking at exponentially growing the company, targeting self reliance in gear technology with focus on high-end gear boxes and big gears. Focus segments for growth include Power, Wind energy and standard products," said V. C. S. Velumani.

Shanthi Gears is planning to launch a new range of Standard Industrial Gear Boxes and Air Compressors of various capacities within the next 6 months. However the company will continue to focus on it's core strength, that is supply of Non standard gear boxes and big size gears.

Currently 50% of Shanthi Gears revenue is from non-standard gear boxes and the remaining from standard gear boxes, geared motors and loose gears.

Shanthi Gears is currently operating from 4 manufacturing plants, with three located at Singanallur and one at Muthugoundenputhur. The company currently has nearly 500 employees.

The company plans to double the number of employees in two years time.

In addition to it's plants at Kamanaickenpalayam, Palladam and Kambanthottam, the company has 70 acres of land, which will be used for further expansion.

Velumani was instrumental in setting up the Chennai facility of Winergy, which is now part of Siemens group, where he worked for last 5 years. He has a total experience of 19 years and for the past 16 years he held various positions at Render and Winergy and gained vast experience in Gear Technology and Administration.

I am thrilled to join Shanthi Gears which has a strong foundation and it is just a question of augmenting the resource and knowledge to accomplish the vision and the mission," V. C. S. Velumani said.
