Bosch Electrical Drives India to set up Manufacturing facility at Chennai Print E-mail

Bangalore: Bosch Electrical Drives India Private Ltd. (A joint Venture with Igarashi Motors India Pvt. Ltd) is setting up a plant in Chennai to produce Wiper systems, Engine cooling fan modules, HVAC blowers and Window lift drives products. The company will invest Rs 370 million to set up the plant, which is expected to be functional by end of 2012.

Bosch Electrical Drives India at present employs 200 persons. With opening of the new plant, it is expected that nearly 350 more people will be recruited over a period of 3 years.

Bosch Electrical Drives India had initiated its operations in Chennai from a leased location in 2008. Now the new plant will be built on a total area of 9000 Sq. m. This facility will cater to the growing needs of the domestic market and aim at increased localization of production.

"This is a milestone event not just for the electrical drives business division of Bosch in India, but a milestone from the global perspective too. With Asian economies witnessing spectacular growth and 'China & India' at the helm of affairs, we see huge opportunity and scope for Bosch to contribute to some significant and path breaking developments here," said Wolf-Henning Scheider, Member of Board of Management, Robert Bosch GmbH.

"A strong focus on diversification and plans by other Bosch companies to initiate operations in India are some of the steps in direction of being a part of this intriguing growth story. The promising growth witnessed in the Indian automobile market and augmented demand from developed markets has translated into good business and growth for Bosch in India. We continue to strive towards catering to market needs with the best in the industry," he added.

The company recently conducted the ground breaking ceremony of the facility. The ground breaking ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Tamil Nadu Government, Mr. V.K. Viswanathan, Managing Director Bosch Limited, Mr. Subramanya Ullal, Vice President, Bosch Electric Drives India Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Igarashi and Mr. Mukund from Igarashi Motors India Pvt. Ltd and Bosch Electrical Drives India Board members and employees. Wolf-Henning Scheider presided over the ceremony.

Bosch has in India, the largest development centre, outside Germany, for end to end engineering and technology solutions. The Bosch Group operates in India through six companies - Bosch Limited, Bosch Chassis Systems India Limited, Bosch Rexroth India Limited, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited, Bosch Automotive Electronics India Pvt Ltd, Bosch Electrical Drives India Pvt Ltd.. In India, Bosch set up its manufacturing operation in 1953, which has grown over the years grown to include 13 manufacturing sites and 4 development centres. As per preliminary figures Bosch Group in India employs over 22,500 associates and generated consolidated revenue of over Rs. 9270 crore in 2010.
