Mumbai: Yaskawa Electric Corporation of Japan has commenced manufacturing of AC drives and servo products from it's new facility in Bangalore. The 55,000 sq. ft. facility with four manufacturing lines will produce 40,000 units of new generation AC Drives (1000 series) a year.

The new facility has been set up with an investment of Rs. 26 crores (about 500 million yen) under the supervision of Japanese technical experts. The installation of equipment and other preparations to begin manufacturing operations have been completed.

The facility is expected to have a workforce of 100 employees by March 2012. Currently it has around 30 employees.

Yaskawa Electric India Private Limited is targeting sales of 4 billion yen for fiscal year ending in March 2012.

With the assistance of Indian sales partner Larsen & Toubro,  Yaskawa Electric has been selling its products in India since the 1990s. Growth in demand for  Yaskawa Electric products is expected to continue in India over the medium and long terms. To become more cost competitive in India and provide even better services to customers, Yaskawa Electric India was established in August 2010.

"L&T and Yaskawa are partners for nearly three decades for providing automation solutions to Indian customers. Indian market is important for Yaskawa, however, our association with L&T is even more important," said Michihiko Zenke, Associate Director, Yaskawa Electric Corporation, Japan.

He further added, "Yaskawa's manufacturing unit in Bangalore will help customers with shortened delivery cycles and meet diversified user demands with product features suited for the Indian environment."

Yaskawa Electric India aims to raise its market share while making more gains in customer satisfaction. To accomplish these goals, this company will further deepen ties between the solution proposal expertise and service network of L&T and the manufacturing and technological support skills of  Yaskawa Electric.

L&T provides motion control solutions using Yaskawa products to process plants, manufacturing plants, buildings and various industrial machinery sectors. The success of their strong association has resulted in the setting up a manufacturing unit in Bangalore for meeting the increased demand for motion control products in India which is a step towards staying closer to customers and reinforcing Yaskawa-L&T's long term commitment to serve the Indian market.

Yaskawa drives will continue to be supplied to customers through L&T's systems integration facility at Navi Mumbai as well as its wide network of more than 600 channel partners across the country.

At a function held at L&T's Automation Campus, Navi Mumbai to commemorate the commencement of production in India, Mr. Michihiko Zenke, Associate Director, Yaskawa Electric Corporation, Japan handed over the first India-manufactured unit of AC drive to Mr. P. K. Bajaj, Vice President and Mr. V.K. Arora, General Manager of E&A.

Yaskawa Electric has taken many actions to expand its business operations in growing markets, chiefly in Asia, under the "Challenge 100" Medium-term Business Plan (2009-2012).
