New Delhi: B Muthuraman, President, CII, and Vice Chairman, Tata Steel, is leading the annual CEOs Mission to UK organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) from 29-30 June in London.

The CII mission includes structured formats for discussions on key topics of manufacturing, advanced technology, innovation, and integrity and governance with leading UK business leaders and institutions.

CII, in partnership with the Confederation of British Industry and the University College of London, is hosting the CII-CBI-UCL India Conference entitled ‘UK-India: Next steps towards greater partnerships’.

The sessions would cover opportunities in technology, innovations in advanced manufacturing, and skills development. The CII and Chatham House Workshop would discuss ‘Integrity and Transparency in Governance.’ Meetings with other political, administrative and business leaders are also on the two-day agenda.

The CEOs would interact with leading UK ministers and officials, including Rt. Hon. Dr Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovations and Skills, Lord Stephen Green, Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Mc Nally, Minister of State and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords Ministry of Justice.

CII’s annual CEOs mission to the UK has emerged as a significant platform for economic engagement of the two countries. It brings together officials and business leaders of both sides to amplify connectivity and discuss proactive roadmaps for strengthening trade and investment flows. CII instituted the India Business Forum in partnership with the High Commission of India to bring Indian companies in the UK on a single platform. Set up in 2009, the IBF already has 53 members so far.

Aggregate trade in 2010 was $14.4 billion, while investments in both directions are strong. The UK is the fourth largest overall investor in India. About 700 Indian companies have business operations in UK, many of them addressing the larger EU market from the UK base. However, there is large untapped potential in bilateral trade and investment emanating from global shift of economic growth poles to Asia.

‘The UK remains one of the foremost players in innovation and technology in manufacturing. India and the UK enjoy high synergies in advanced manufacturing, including scientific and technical talent and common language, and can deepen and strengthen bilateral engagement to mutual benefit,’ stated Mr B Muthuraman, President, CII.

‘CII views the UK as a strategic economic partner and enjoys strong interaction across administrative, business and academic fields with the country. The annual CEOs mission serves to deepen economic cooperation in key sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing and services as well as innovation and skills development,’ added Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII.
