New Delhi: Shekhar Agarwal assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence today. He belongs to the 1977 batch of the Indian Administrative Service.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Raj Kumar Singh, IAS (BH:75), presently Secretary, Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Shekhar Agarwal has a vast experience of working in Home, Finance and Personnel Administration and has worked in all core areas of the Governments both in the Centre as well as in the State. He was Special Secretary working in the Ministry of Defence for the last three and half years before assuming this new appointment. He is also a Gold Medalist from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University.

Raj Kumar Singh has been appointed for a period of two years from the date of taking over the charge of Home Secretary, vice G.K. Pillai, IAS (KL:72), retiring on 30th June, 2011.

Raj Kumar Singh, will serve as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs in the rank and pay of Secretary with immediate effect and till the date of his assumption of charge as Home Secretary.
