Dr VS Hegde Appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Antrix Corporation Print E-mail

Bangalore: Dr VS Hegde, Outstanding Scientist and Scientific Secretary, ISRO has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of Antrix Corporation Limited of the Department of Space. He is the first non-Chairman of ISRO to head it.

Antrix would continue to be an ISRO subsidiary and report to or consult the parent on important commercial matters. "In July 2010, we initiated the process of restructuring and in February 2011, the Space Commission started the process for finding the CMD," said Dr Radhakrishnan.

The new CMD is expected to reconstitute the member board in about a months time. The board would continue to have a mix of members drawn from ISRO, industry and academia but the private sector directors would have fixed tenures.

The board has Ratan Tata of Tata Sons, Jamshyd Godrej, MD of Godrej & Boyce Ltd and Mr P.Ravindra Reddy, MD of MTAR Technologies Ltd, as industry representatives. Their companies also supply vital hardware for ISRO's satellite and launcher programmes.

Dr Hegde, an expert in remote sensing applications, has over three decades of experience in ISRO, and has contributed immensely in the areas of Earth Observation, Disaster Management Support and Societal Development Programmes.

Dr Hegde holds a Post Graduate degree in Applied Geology from Karnatak University and Doctorate in Environmental Science from Bangalore University.

Dr Hegde was the Scientific Secretary of ISRO.  He is also Vice-President of the International Astronautical Federation.

Dr Hegde said that in fiscal 2010-11, the company made a turnover of Rs 1020 crore, 70 per cent of it from leasing transponders on its INSAT satellites to private domestic broadcasters.

Shri V Koteswara Rao, Outstanding Scientist and Director of Laboratory for Electro Optic Systems (LEOS), a unit of ISRO, has been appointed as the Scientific Secretary of ISRO.  Shri Koteswara Rao has held several important positions in ISRO.  He was the Project Director of Astrosat satellite.

Shri Koteswara Rao holds post graduate degree in Instrumentation and Control Systems from JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada.  He has made significant contribution in the design and development of satellite sensor systems of ISRO.

Shri Rao is a Member of International Academy of Astronautics and the Executive Secretary of the Astronautical Society of India.
