StarragHeckert breaks ground for factory at Devanahalli Aeropark, Bangalore Print E-mail

Bangalore: StarragHeckert Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, India, a whole-time subsidiary of StarragHeckert AG, held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new greenfield manufacturing facility in the Devanahalli Aeropark, Bangalore on Thursday, July 14.

StarragHeckert is one of the first companies to start construction at KIADB, Devanahalli Aeropark, Bangalore, after it received approval from Karnataka Udyog Mitra during the Global Investor Meet in June 2010. With a total capital investment of Rs. 65 crore, Starragheckert's new facility aims to meet the growing demands of the Indian and Asian markets.

The company is targeting 10 to 15% of the 4 axis HMC market from sectors such as Trucks, Tractors, Earth Movers, Valves, Machinery. 30% of the production will be exported to meet the needs of the Asian market.
The new factory, coming up in 8 acres of land, will be built in 2 phases and the first phase with a built up area of one lakh sq.ft. is scheduled to be completed in 12 months and the roll out of 4 axis horizontal machining centers will begin in 24 months. An additional one lakh sq. ft. of built up area would be added during the second phase over a three-year period.

The new facility will initially manufacture 60 units a year and the manufacturing program will be scaled up to 120 units a year during the second phase. StarragHeckert will manufacture Horizontal Machining Centers-WMW CWK with 400mm to 800mm pallet sizes in the new facility. The group also has long term plans to produce 5-axis machining centers from the new facility.
The machines produced in the new factory will be supported by  tooled up solutions from the Tech-center which will relocate to the new facility.

The ceremony, which also included the formal unveiling of the foundation stone, was conducted in the presence of a host of dignitaries including Mr.Rolf  Frei, Consul General of Switzerland in Bangalore,  Mr.S Gopal, CEO, L&T Komatsu, Mr.Walter Borsch, Executive Vice President, Starrag Group and many CEOs of allied industries.

Dr Frank Brinken, President and CEO, StarragHeckert Group ,Switzerland, initiated the ground breaking ceremony and unveiled the foundation stone. Dr.Brinken said, " We are happy with this selection of location to open our first manufacturing facility out side Europe. Considering the demands from the rapidly growing Aerospace, Energy, Engineering and Automotive manufacturing sectors in India, we are at the right place, at the right time with the right products"

"We will target 40% localized inputs in value terms for the WMW 4axis horizontal machining centers.Very soon we may be contributing to the production of fixtures for the global market from here," said N.Chandramouli, Managing Director of StarragHeckert Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, India.

The factory will provide employment for 200 people who will be trained through the Swiss Vocational Education and Training Initiative already initiated in collaboration with Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce.

StarragHeckert has production plants in Rorschacherberg/Switzerland (Starrag), Chemnitz/Germany (Heckert), Geneva/Switzerland (SIP) and Haddenham/UK (TTL), as well as sales and service companies in China (Beijing and Shanghai), the USA (Cincinnati, Dallas and Los Angeles) Canada, France, India, the UK, Russia and Turkey. The Indian facility is the company's first manufacturing plant outside Europe.
