Chennai: Nissan Motor India Private Ltd plans to export components worth $100 million from India to its global manufacturing facilities. The company also plans to double production capacity at its plant in Chennai to 400,000 units per year.

The company today unveiled its premium vehicle offering for the mid size segment in India – the new Nissan 'SUNNY'. The new saloon will hit the market in the next few months to coincide with the festive season.

The petrol variant of the Nissan SUNNY will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance Orgadam facility in Chennai.

"The unveiling of the iconic Nissan SUNNY today reinstates our seriousness on business operations in India. It reiterates that we are as per schedule on our Indian plans including future product launches. Nissan SUNNY highlights the versatility of the global V- platform that allows us to benchmark ourselves with novel design features for the mid-size segment. The vehicle will offer more value to the discerning customer and carve out a niche amidst competition in the fast growing Indian automobile market," said Kiminobu Tokuyama, M.D. & CEO, Nissan Motor India.

The premium saloon car has been designed at Nissan Design and Nissan Motor Co Ltd headquarters in Japan along with inputs from 170 countries where it would be sold worldwide.

The company plans to triple sales to 40,000 vehicles by the end of this fiscal year. Tokuyama expects the new car to make a big contribution to sales figures.
