Kul Bhushan and A. K. Vohra join Railway Board as Members, Electrical & Staff Print E-mail

New Delhi: Kul Bhushan has taken over as new Member Electrical, Railway Board and Arvind Kumar Vohra has taken over as new Member Staff, Railway Board. Both of them are now ex-officio Secretaries to Government of India.

Kul Bhushan served as General Manager, Central Railway, Mumbai, with additional charge of Western Railway. However, he will continue to hold the post of GM, Central Railway in addition to his present post until further orders. A. K. Vohra was serving as General Manager, East Coast Railway, Bhubneshwar, since 25th August, 2009. However, he will continue to hold the post of General Manager, East Coast Railway in addition to his present post until further orders.

An officer of the 1975 batch of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Shri Kul Bhushan joined Indian Railways in 1976 after obtaining B. Sc. Engg (Elect) with Hons. from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He is also a Gold medalist with distinction from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. Shri Kul Bhusahn has been serving Indian Railways for nearly 35 years and during this period worked in different capacities, such as, Adviser Electrical (Rolling Stock) in Railway Board, Dy. Chief Electrical Engineer, Chief Electrical Service Engineer, Executive Director, Electrical (Development), Railway Board, Divisional Railway Manager, Katihar, Northeast Frontier Railway and Chief Electrical Engineer, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. While working as Advisor Electrical in the Ministry of Railways, he was responsible for policy initiative for maintenance and operation of 3200 electric locomotives fleet on Indian Railways, acquisition of new technology for electric locomotives and for manufacture of new generation electric locomotives in Indian Railways’ factory at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works. During his tenure as Advisor Electrical (Rolling Stock) and Executive Director Electrical (Development), Railway Board, he travelled various countries i.e. USA, Switzerland, Germany, France, UK, Japan, China and Australia.

An officer of the 1973 batch of Indian Railway service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Shri Vohra joined Indian Railways in the year 1974 after obtaining degree in B.Sc Engineering (Hons) from Punjab University, Chandigarh. In addition to his posting as GM, ECoR, Shri Vohra was the Director General, Railway Staff College, Vadodara. He has also served in various capacities at senior levels all over Indian Railways. His fields of expertise are management of Suburban Transportation System with specific reference to operation maintenance and power supply arrangements for electrical multiple units. He has also proficiency in manufacturing of electrical locomotives, and is considered an expert in maintenance and operation of electric locomotives. Shri Vohra has wide knowledge of planning, project evaluation and execution of railway electrification projects. An icon of monitoring mega and major railway electrification projects and their execution, he has rendered his expertise in preparation, planning, procurement and execution of World Bank and Asian Development Bank financial projects over Indian Railways.
