Automobile production registers 13.01 % Y-o-Y growth in July 2011 Print E-mail

New Delhi: Automobile production in India has registered a growth of 13.01 percent in July 2011 as compared to July 2010. The cumulative production data for April-July 2011 shows production growth of 16.78 percent over same period last year.

The Domestic Sales growth rate recorded for April-July 2011 was 13.55 percent. However, the month of July 2011 registered a lower growth rate of 8.99 percent on month to month basis.

The Passenger Vehicles segment grew at 4.03 percent during April-July 2011 over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 1.12 percent, Utility Vehicles grew by 7.84 percent and Vans grew by 25.42 percent in this period. In the month of July 2011, sale of Passenger Cars decreased by (-) 15.76 percent, Utility Vehicles and Vans recorded growth of 16.33 percent and 16.12 percent respectively. And growth in overall Passenger Vehicles declined by (-) 8.95 percent in the month of July 2011.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered growth of 16.56 percent during April-July 2011 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered growth of 6.40 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 25.64 percent. However, in the month of July 2011 over July 2010, the growth in sales of the overall segment was 23.70 percent.

Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 2.50 percent in April-July 2011. While Passenger Carriers registered decline at (-) 1.03 percent during April-July 2011, Goods Carriers registered growth of 17.12 percent.

Two Wheelers registered a growth of 15.79 percent during April-July 2011. Mopeds, Scooters and Motorcycles grew by 17.55 percent, 15.85 percent and 15.64 percent respectively. If we compare July 2011 to July 2010, the growth figures for two wheelers was also lower at 12.61 percent. Three Wheelers registered decline and the growth rate was (-) 3.13 percent in the month of July 2011.

During April-July 2011, overall automobile exports registered a healthy growth rate of 29.69 percent. Passenger Vehicles registered growth at 19.24 percent in this period. Two Wheelers, Commercial Vehicles and Three Wheelers segments recorded growth of 28.79 percent, 36.97 percent and 50.04 percent respectively during April-July 2011.

In July 2011 compared to July 2010, overall automobile exports registered a growth of 33.36 percent.
