New Delhi: BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited – a unit of BrahMos Aerospace - is functioning with current year order booking of Rs.150 Crore. Defence Minister AK Antony said that the annual turnover of the Company is steadily progressing and has crossed Rs.60 Crore in the last three years.
He said that investments have been made by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Twenty-five High precision machines have been added, and a new Complex is being constructed in the adjacent Air Force land under the aegis of Defence Ministry.
The company has earmarked a Rs. 4 crore capex this year, to add capacity to produce missile components. BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited currently has around 20 vendors for machining. Soon BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd is likely to manufacture airframes for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Airframes made of light alloy for the missiles are being manufactured by Godrej at present. They established a separate plant for the purpose, but it is not sufficient, said BrahMos Aerospace CEO Dr A Sivathanu Pillai. BATL will become the second manufacturing hub for the airframes
BrahMos Aerospace is set to step up production of the missiles, with the Army placing more orders.
In FY 2010 - 2011, BATL registered a turnover of Rs. 17 crores. This year, it is expected to reach Rs. 35 crores. BrahMos Aerospace took over the Company - the erstwhile Kerala Hitech Industries (Keltec), a State Government unit which was going through financial crisis and was under BIFR - in December 2007. |
