Vivek Venkatachalam to lead GE's Converteam business operations in India Print E-mail

New Delhi: GE Energy announced the appointment of Vivek Venkatachalam as the President& CEO for GE's Converteam business operations in India, of the recently concluded $3.2bn acquisition of Converteam globally. Venkatachalam, currently head of GE Oil & Gas, In India, in his new role will oversee the development and execution of commercial, marketing, engineering and services strategy for Converteam in India.

"In his most recent role as the business leader for GE Oil & Gas, Vivek did an outstanding job of leading the India team over last 2 years," said John Flannery, President & CEO, GE India.

"He has been instrumental in building the business strategies and developing the local team, products & partnerships and growing the business. I am confident that he will continue adding great value to the company," he added.

Converteam's facilities are located in Chennai, with 500 local employees. The company’s portfolio includes variable frequency drives and other power electronics, advanced motors and generators, as well as industrial automation and controls. Converteam’s products are widely used in the renewable energy sector, turning intermittent and variable power from solar, wind and tidal sources into the high quality and reliable power required by grid operators throughout the world.

As part of the growing trend of electrification in the oil and gas industry, its technologies are used to drive mission critical customer equipment in the production and transportation of hydrocarbons. Converteam also offers a broad range of automation and control systems that allow customers to optimize their production processes in the metals, mining and other industries.

Vivek’s association with GE dates back to the year 2000 when he joined GE Water after a five year stint at Orchid Chemicals Limited.

As a Sales manager, he played an important role in growing the GE Water business in India. In March 2005, Vivek moved to the GE Oil & Gas business in India. He had played a key role in building the India Oil & Gas organization and provided vital support to global business operations. Vivek holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Annamalai University.
