New Delhi: A High level committee has been set up to monitor steel price movements. Joint Secretary in the ministry of steel, Amrit Singh Deo, will head the committee. The committee could initiate measures to prevent hiking prices in tandem with the international trend. This move indicates a reversion to the administered mechanism.

The ministry has roped in industry representatives in the monitoring committee [chairman of SAIL, MD of TATA steel, MD of Essar steel, MD of Ispat Industries and vice CMD of JSW steel].

The committee is likely to recommend strategies for steel production, consumption and trading in the country. Based on adaptive model, the committee will analyze variations and formulate strategy regarding the future prices.
